The Impact of Exploration (6/8/11)

Standard 7.11.3: Examine the origins of modern capitalism; the influence of mercantilism and the cottage industry; the elements and importance of a market economy in seventeenth-century Europe; the changing international trading and marketing patterns; including their locations on a world map; and the influence of explorers and map makers.

Objectives: We will examine the origins of modern capitalism. We will identify elements of a market economy. We will identify the cottage industry and mercantilism.

B) Please read all tasks fully before asking a teammate or your teacher if you don't understand something.


Task 1: Complete the Do Now to show your understanding of European exploration of North America. Use the presentation European Exploration of North America if you need help.

Task 2: Track Mr. Herrera as he presents The Impact of European Exploration. Take Cornell notes on the next available page in your interactive notebook.

Task 3: Watch as Mr. Herrera shows you how to create a mindmap using MindMeister to show your understanding of the impact of exploration on European economies. Take a look at Mr. Herrera's example.

Task 4: Finish your mindmap of the impact of European exploration. Your mindmap should show excellence in that it is organized, neat, and professional.


Homework
  1. Finish your mindmap. All information must be in your own words. All slide titles should have a related image attached (4 total). You will learn how to share the link with Mr. Herrera tomorrow in class. DO NOT email your mindmap to Mr. Herrera.

Early Finishers:
  1. Use your 8-square comic to create a an animated video about the great European voyages of discovery by using GoAnimate (you will need to create an account and play around with the tools here). Your animated video should have 6 scenes that explain the concepts in today's comic.
